New Books (not to be reviewed)

The following books have arrived on the Book Review Editor’s desk but will, for one reason or another, not be reviewed in the journal.

McNabb, John (2007) The British Lower Palaeolithic. Stones in Contention. London: Routledge. ISBN 978-0-415-42728-9. Pbk. 440pp. Various illustrations. £25.99

The main purpose of this book on the Clactonian in Britain is “to demystify the earlier part of the British Palaeolithic”. It is also about setting “the record straight as to what the Clactonian is, and more especially what it is not.”

Scarre, Chris (2007) The Megalithic Monuments of Britain and Ireland. London: Thames and Hudson. ISBN 978-0-500-286661. Pbk. 160pp. 195 figs, 20 in colour. £12.95.

A very affordable and well illustrated guidebook.

Michell, John (2007) Megalithomania. Artists and Antiquarians at the Old Stone Monuments. Facsimile of the 1982 book. Glastonbury: Squeeze Press. ISBN 1-906069-03-4. Pbk. 168pp. very many b/w illustrations. £12.99

A classic book about the wonders of megaliths through time. First published in 1982 it is now available again in this new edition (which lacks the colour illustrations). Must-have for all megalith enthusiasts!
