An email from Simeon Prokopov offering fieldwork opportunities in Bulgaria:
We would like to promote our 2 current archaeology fieldwork projects offered to students in Archaeology and History, faculty staff as well as all individuals personally interested in archaeology and digging. No experience or foreign languages – except English – is required:
Programme 1. Early Christian Basilica in Sandanski (4-6 c.). The programme is in association with the Archaeology museum in Sandanski – a spa resort in Southern Bulgaria and includes exploration and excavation work of a unique Early Christian basilica and a Bishop complex located in the center of the town of Sandanski.
Fieldwork programmes are divided into several sessions, as the duration of each is 2 weeks. The fieldwork will be combined with some practical courses of mosaic reproduction in ancient style. A trip to the magnificent ancient basilica in Philippi, Greece will be organized in the middle weekend of every session. More info at http://sandanski.archeobg.org
Programme 2. Roman baths and a Thracian settlement with a neighbouring sanctuary in Hisar. The second project has been launched in association with the local museum of archaeology in another spa resort in Bulgaria- Hisar and fieldwork sessions combine three different sites: Roman baths in the center of the town, a Thracian settlement near Hisar and a Thracian sanctuary close to the settlement. A day trip to the world famous Thracian tomb in Kazanlak will be organized during the weekend between the working weeks. Again, each session is 2 weeks. More info at http://hisar.archeobg.org
