Archaeological summer camp on Sicily

Arriving at the 9th organization with more than 900 Italian and foreign participants involved in a holiday of sun, sea and of archaeological discoveries, the summer camps of Kalat Project have made possible until now the discovery of more than 250 new archaeological sites, the mapping of kilometres of ancient pathways, the accomplishment of two Museums and of one Archaeological Park called “Ancient Park of Iachinu Fili”.

This year the camps of Kalat Project which are traditionally youth camps, will take place in the weeks starting on the 7th and 21st July, 4th and 18th of August. In all the camps, groups of about ten foreign persons can participate.

The programme 2007 is aimed at the recovery of the Bronze Age necropolis of Iachinu Filì and of an Arabic site. The field activities are guided by scientific collaborators from the University and the Superintendence BBCCAA, supported by foreign University students, will be carried out with the permission of the Superintendence BBCCAA of Agrigento and the advise of the teaching staff of the Universities of Palermo and Napoli.

The international camps apart research activities (digging of the humus layer, cleaning the prehistoric graves, mapping of the area, cleaning of finds) offer: cooperative and intercultural games at the start of the program, excursion and guided visits to Agrigento Temple valley, meals of typical Sicilian dishes, accommodation in the Kalat Centre, bus transport, certificate of participation.
