The
10th Annual Meeting of the European Association of Archaeologists took
place in Lyon, France, 5-12 September 2004.
The

organized by Jacques Lasfargues of the Museum of Gallo-Roman Civilisation
in Lyon and Françoise Audouze (former EAA executive board member)
of the University of Paris 10 - Nanterre. 806 participants from all over
the world took part in the conference at the Jean Moulin University.
Different
two-day excursions preceded the conference and various shorter excursions
were offered on the Sunday. The academic part of the conference started
with a lecture by Professor Christian Goudineau from Paris on the Wednesday
evening, followed by the opening party at Hotel du Département.
Altogether 58 academic sessions were held from the Wednesday to the Saturday;
they were organized into three main blocks:
1.
Theory and Interpretation of Material Culture
2.
Cultural Heritage and the Management of the Archaeological Record
3.
Archaeology in the Modern World
A poster
session was organized on the Saturday. Other social events included the
EAA party at St. Romain en Gal on the Thursday, and Gala dinner in the
Musée gallo-romain on the Saturday; on the top of it the city of
Lyon tempted the delegates with its attractive restaurants and cafés.
The anniversary EAA conference belongs among the most enjoyable and memorable
